Welcome

My name is John Rutherford. I am an associate partner and clinical lead Physiotherapist at the PTR clinic in Harley Street.

I was co founder, with Giles Webster, of the clinic in 1991. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy MCSP, licensed with the health Professions Council HPC, and have post graduate qualifications in Osteopathy.

I specialise in the treatment of spinal and muscular-skeletal pathology. My initial consultation includes a detailed clinical and medical assessment. The emphasis of my approach is on manual treatment and remedial and postural exercise protocols. I have extensive experience in the field of joint and muscle dysfunction gained during 25 years of practice primarily in the UK and USA. My extended role in the practice also involves management, finance and marketing.

Treating the cause as well as the symptom

To achieve lasting benefit from treatment we aim to deal with the cause of the problem as well as the symptoms. For example a painful lower back may be caused by a restricted ankle joint. Neck and arm pain may be caused by poor working position hunched over a computer.

Working with other specialists

Spine and joint problems may require the specialist knowledge of consultants in other disciplines. We have close links with colleagues in such specialities as spinal surgery, injections, rheumatology and imaging, sports medicine massage acupuncture and podiatry.

Treatment plan

Your initial assessment will incorporate an evaluation of your general health and fitness as well as your current symptoms. A treatment protocol will be developed based on the initial findings and adjusted to suit you as your individual needs require. Your symptoms and treatment plan will be discussed with you and you will have an opportunity to ask questions. When you are satisfied with the explanation and understand the symptoms and treatment proposed we will proceed to resolving your problem.

I look forward to meeting you.
